The Story Behind the Print

Every print begins with an idea. The most memorable ones begin with a story!

For the denu × Philosophy Australia collection, we wanted to create something that felt distinctly Australian, but in a way that was less expected.

Rather than turning to familiar waratahs and gum leaves, we looked deeper into our native landscape, drawing inspiration from botanicals treasured for their use as bush tucker, medicinal plants, spices and aromatics. To bring that vision to life, we collaborated with Sydney artist Rosie Hawkswell, whose expressive style perfectly captured the mood we were hoping to create.

“I wanted the artwork to feel organic and immersive, as though the botanicals were naturally weaving and moving across the fabric,” says Rosie. “There is a softness to Australian flora that often gets overlooked. I wanted to celebrate its beauty in a way that felt contemporary, layered and timeless", adds Ali.

The artwork features Cape York Lily, Native Thyme, Southern Blue Gum, Lemon Myrtle, Veined Sun Orchid, Finger Lime and Cinnamon Myrtle. Together they create a rich visual tapestry that speaks to both the beauty and usefulness of Australia’s native botanicals.

The palette reflects the diversity of the Australian landscape itself. Deep rainforest greens, emeralds and soft khakis evoke the calm of native forests, while warm orange red tones move through the design like flashes of sunlight through the canopy.

“I was inspired by the colours and contrasts you discover when you spend time in nature,” Rosie explains.

“The more closely you look, the more layers you find. I wanted the print to have that same sense of discovery.”

The result is a 100% silk satin artwork print that feels luxurious yet wearable, expressive yet timeless. A celebration of Australian creativity, nature and craftsmanship, designed to be worn, loved and remembered.
