EOFY sales have a way of making everything feel like an opportunity. The countdown timers appear; inboxes fill with discounts and suddenly buying feels productive. I've fallen for it myself.
Over the years though, I've realised that the best purchases have almost nothing to do with price and everything to do with purpose.
My wardrobe is smaller than it was five years ago, but it works harder than ever. Every piece earns its place. Every jacket works with multiple outfits. Every pair of pants has been worn dozens of times. That's what slow fashion looks like in real life.
When I'm shopping, I don't ask whether something is a bargain. I ask whether I'll still be excited to wear it in three years. If the answer isn't an immediate yes, I walk away.
I've also stopped buying for a version of myself that doesn't exist. The special occasion dress for events that never happen. The shoes that look beautiful but hurt after ten minutes. The trend that looks great online but never quite feels like me.
Instead, I invest in wardrobe warriors. The perfectly cut pant. The knit that travels everywhere. The dress that works with sneakers on Tuesday and earrings on Saturday night. The pieces that quietly become the hardest working items in the wardrobe.
That's the philosophy behind slow fashion. It isn't about buying nothing. It's about buying thoughtfully.
This EOFY, rather than filling your wardrobe, try refining it. Choose fabrics that feel beautiful, silhouettes that flatter and pieces that already have friends waiting for them in your wardrobe.
Because cheap basics are only cheap the first time, but quality pieces repay you every single wear.
Shop slow. Buy better. Wear longer.
It's better for your wardrobe, better for your wallet and, ultimately, better for the way you feel every morning when you get dressed.
