Our design philosophy has always been simple:

Today, only around 3% of clothing sold in Australia is made in Australia.
Just three percent. It is a statistic that surprises many people, but one we think matters.
Because every time a local manufacturer closes, skills disappear. Generations of craftsmanship become harder to sustain. Behind every garment made locally sits a much bigger ecosystem of patternmakers, cutters, machinists, textile suppliers, and small businesses whose livelihoods rely on keeping Australian fashion moving.
At Philosophy Australia, we are incredibly proud to be part of that 3%.
Not because it is easy. In truth, manufacturing locally is more complex and more expensive. We choose it because we believe it creates a better garment and a better way of doing business.
Every Philosophy Australia piece is designed and made in Sydney and every dollar spent in creating our collections supports other Australian businesses. We know the names of every person involved in our garments, from sketch to despatch, and we know that to be so rare.
Many of these relationships have existed for decades and we consider them part of our extended Philosophy family.
Our garments are produced using a couture manufacturing method where one machinist creates one garment from beginning to end. Rather than moving through a production line, each piece is individually made with care, consistency, and craftsmanship.
It is slower, and more thoughtful, and we believe it creates something better. When we say our garments are Made in Sydney, with Love, we genuinely mean it.
Our commitment to local manufacturing naturally supports a more mindful and responsible approach to fashion. Approximately 90% of our production is made to order, helping minimise excess stock and unnecessary waste. We design with longevity in mind, creating timeless wardrobe pieces rather than chasing fast trends and disposable fashion cycles.
We believe buying less, but buying better, is one of the most powerful decisions a customer can make.
As members of the Australian Fashion Council and Seamless, we continue to be actively involved in shaping conversations around sustainability, circularity, and the future of Australian fashion. Because for us, ethical fashion is not a marketing campaign, it is simply the way we have always chosen to operate.
