For Australian Made Week, SEN are celebrating Aussie business!

Australians are especially passionate about community and supporting one another. Why do you think it’s important that shoppers support local manufacturing, and the families making products here?

I agree, Australians are completely passionate about supporting small local and Australian made product. We even run a campaign in-house that we call shop small, support local buy Australian made, which is about supporting our wholesale boutique stockists across the country. We believe that it's important to know where your product has come from, and we like to say that we have a completely visible supply chain and that we can name every pair of hands involved from my sketch to someone wearing a garment. That level of transparency can only happen if it's a locally made product, and for me, that represents real quality and value.

Can you tell us how your business came to be? What was the original inspiration behind making your product?

I joined the company 18 years ago as a designer when I moved here from England, and I took over the ownership of the brand 7 years ago. It's always been Australian essence, but since taking ownership, I am now 100% Australian production and therefore added Australia to our name to really spotlight that importance and that heritage. We create beautifully made easy wear, easy care, wear anywhere, women's fashion with a bias towards slow and considered style.

What makes your Australian Made product/business unique?

What makes our Australian made products unique is that only 3% of fashion purchased in Australia currently is made here. And I think that's a disgusting figure. So, I'm very proud that we are part of that 3% club, and I think the messaging that the Australian Fashion Council and the Australian made campaigns collectively are getting out there of the importance of supporting local industry to maintain it, is important.

What does the Australian Made logo stand for / communicate / symbolise for you?

That little green and gold kangaroo logo is visible across our website and it's on every one of our products on the swing ticket. And as I said earlier, I've added Australia to our name to really impact that message. And so, for us, being a license was just a new brainer, and we find that our wholesale and public customers really appreciate and value it.

Why is it important that shoppers choose Australian Made products?

In terms of fashion, it's if we don't support a local industry, there won't be any local industry. Small, bijou, boutique labels and brands are slowly disappearing with big brands and Fast Fashion taking over. We are trying to get the message that slow and considered style is the way to go for uniqueness for your own wardrobe as consumers, which then benefits that our industry too.

Anything else you would like to share about your business or products?

I'd like to share that all 100% of our products are made with love. We are a customer centric label who like to sprinkle kindness with every interaction and surprise and delight with our quality, our fit, and our fabric. It's only once you've worn a Philosophy Australia piece that you notice that level of difference and quality and is why our customers become our greatest cheerleaders. So please go explore our collection online, as we’d love to welcome you to our family.
