10 reasons we are anti Black Friday
At Philosophy Australia, we will not be participating in Black Friday and Cyber Monday. First and foremost, we stand behind the products we create and do not wish to devalue them by jumping on board with an American mass marketing concept.
- We are Australian, not American - Black Friday isn't part of our heritage.
- From a single day to a month - When does it end?
- It disrupts our best selling season - New collections deserve their moment.
- Small businesses can't keep up - We're about quality, not mass discounts. Shop small, support local, buy Australian made.
- We value our boutique partners - Supporting them means more to us than flash sales.
- Too much noise with ad overdose - Ad overload doesn't align with our values.
- Misleading sales are everywhere -"Up to 80%" often means only a handful of items.
- Extreme sales - When 10% off isn't enough to entice. (We offer this year round for new customers or as a customer reward for reviewing purchases.)
- Encouraging over consumption - We believe in mindful shopping, not excess. If you wouldn't pay full price, do you need it on sale?
- Panic Frenzy isn't our style - We embrace slow fashion, not rushed decisions. Once a style goes to outlet it stays at that price, as we don't do flash sales.

- Support small business
- Value instead of price
- Rewarding those who support us with gifts
We know we offer fantastic value for our purely local, couture made, slow fashion items - and we always will. We do not produce any style in high volumes; therefore, we do not have bulk product we need to on sell at discount. We do not price our products to account for constant markdowns and discount marketing, like the big retailers.
As a small self-funded business, we could not afford to offer product at the extreme discounts offered and would therefore be lost in the noise.
As a wholesaler, we also wish to support our boutique customers, who are also in the position of not being able to offer and compete in this weekend (which seems to have stretched to a month!) by adding pressure to them to match our deals.
As consumers, use the opportunity to stock up on white goods, commodities and necessities; but when it comes to your wardrobe, we hope you’ll be buying items that will bring you joy, value and a goodwill factor of knowing you are supporting a local business.
